25 years of WMEA

Dear Friends of Eurythmy,

25 years of WMEA

Half-term is already approaching. After seven years on the campus of the Glasshouse, we discovered that our Eurythmy Association to care for this art and the eurythmy training was formed 25 years ago. To celebrate, the stage-group are performing in Elmfield School, 9th November, 8.00 pm, a varied programme “Because I love…” — poems by Kathleen Raine, D.H. Lawrence, with some lighter ditties & delightful music by Shostakovich and Bartok.

Eurythmy is penetrating the town, since we also need to hire local church halls for lessons. (The exercise does pianists good, too.) All the students (1st to 4th year) spent a week in London with Annemarie Ehrlich (The Hague), who specialises in eurythmy in the workplace. This broadened their horizons concerning the possibilities in the profession.

Student numbers are up, since we are honoured with some visitors: ke Bergstrm from Sweden is taking a refresher course this year; three 4th-year students from Sussex—Mioara Tarzioru, Melanie Treadgold and Nobumi Yokoyama—are spending a term in Stourbridge. We also welcome Tim Nowak and Catharine Stack in the first year; others are delayed by visa and other problems.

Further diary-dates: On 30th October, 7.30 pm, at the Glasshouse, the five 4th-year students show their music solos. Their demonstration/ projects begin Monday & Tuesday 12th & 13th November 7.30 pm (more next term). Friends most welcome!

“Les Oiseaux” and Michael Jones (piano) perform don’t miss this an exquisite programme on 7th November, 7.30. This concert is a generous gesture towards the piano fund. Yes! it’s time to overhaul the ivories.

On Saturday 17th November, tickets are available for a delicious international supper evening provided by our versatile students, with entertainment from Terry Lizzard “Tribute Transvestite Comedy”. This event is a fund-raiser towards LEAP, the —last-ditch eurythmy accreditation project— of all the eurythmy trainings in England. Not to be missed — book now 01384-442563!

On 1st December, 2.30 pm, during the Advent Fair, the stage-group are providing a short entertainment-performance for children. The end-of-term showing of work on 8th December, 7.30 pm at the Glasshouse. Do arrive early to avoid, er, acute disappointment!

With all warm wishes, For the faculty and students,

Alan Stott (secretary)
