EASTER News and Greetings!

Enquiries have been arriving for both the new first year (our new accredited course starting in the Autumn), and also for the Young Stage Group. The new first year appear to be a young, keen group! Some enquirers ask whether we award a BA equivalent to graduates from other eurythmy trainings, after one year’s work – that is, fulfil the 4th-year requirements together with points gained from their basic training. We are actively discussing this possibility. Watch this space!

Non-EU citizens interested in the Young Stage Group should check out the government demands for entering the country, on the UKBA website. Yes, we are not asking for school fees for the Young Stage Group. Rehearsals take place three days a week, on a programme of professional standard that will go on tour. We are looking for initiative, yet input will also be offered from various directors.

The future? We are looking forward to develop further collaboration with The Glasshouse Arts Centre. Work on the new theatre is scheduled to begin this summer.

The 4th-year students are busy with their graduation programme. The stage-group have performed “Harap Alb” to enthusiastic youngsters in schools. The next performance is a family show in Cotswold Playhouse, Stroud, 23rd April, together with “Water Islands” in the evening, 7.30. Maren is giving a course during the International Conference for Eurythmists in Dornach the week after Easter, and performing two humorous items from “Water Islands” on Tuesday evening in the Goetheanum.

May Easter grace reach everyone!

Dear Friends of Eurythmy,

The autumn term began differently this year. The eurythmy students were in schools on teaching practice. Following this in October, they joined the other students studying eurythmy in England for a course in social eurythmy – a newly recognised, fourth branch of the profession – led by Annemarie Ehrlich from The Hague. This course was hosted by the eurythmy school at Peredur Centre for the Arts, East Grinstead.

Because of the short working period this term, the public showing of work is postponed. Please note: the event announced in the Glasshouse Arts Centre brochure (17th Dec.) will not take place. Rounding off the term takes place internally this year.

Students will contribute with eurythmy to the pre-Christmas festival organised by the Anthroposophical Society on Sunday 19th Dec., 8.00 pm, at Elmfield School.

Preparations for the 4th-year graduation on June 25th are well under way. The students are preparing a tour to include centres in Scotland. They are looking forward to join other new graduates and future colleagues from many parts of the world at the annual 4th-years’ meeting in Dornach next summer.

2010–11 is a transition year. You will have heard that, after exploring the possibilities for new developments, the Eurythmy School will continue in Stourbridge. We are preparing for a new intake in September 2011, when the accredited eurythmy course (level 5, BA equivalent) will commence. Enquiries have already reached double figures. Viola, originally from Hungary, has already arrived. She is spending this year in preparation, working with the support staff at The Glasshouse College and joining us for one morning during the week.

The stage group perform a story from Romania, “The Tale of Harap Alb”, in the new hall of the Steiner Academy, Hereford, 4th February; The Grange, 4th February (evening); Elmfield School, 4th March; The Glasshouse College 4th March (afternoon); Cotswold Playhouse, Stroud, 23rd April; Michael Hall, Forest Row, 6th May (to be confirmed); Michael House School, Ilkeston, 20th May; Freeman College, Sheffield, 10th June.

Shaina commutes from Stroud twice a week. She looks forward to completing her Masters in Eurythmy Education early next year. Alongside her teaching and practising Eurythmy Therapy, Shaina also plans to promote eurythmy further afield. Maren’s solo programme “Water Islands” – originally the climax of her Performing Masters – has been performed so far five times. Further performances are planned, including upper school, with workshop and discussion.

We are encouraged by the tremendous news that funding has finally materialised to renovate the Glasshouse Arts Centre, including a theatre and more studio space. Work begins Easter 2011. This opens up exciting possibilities for a closer collaboration in artistic initiatives with The Glasshouse Arts Centre.

Warm Advent and Christmas greetings from the staff and the eurythmy students!

EXCITING OPPORTUNITIES

2010–11 is a transition year for us. The WMEA accredited Eurythmy Training begins in September, 2011. We did announce a projected change of venue. Plans are now more realistic. New developments offer exciting possibilities to develop eurythmy in two venues.

STOURBRIDGE. In 2000, we moved to the Glasshouse College from the campus of Elmfield School. The staff at the Glasshouse continue their support for the newly founded Eurythmy School. At last funding is there to renovate the theatre (c. 350 seats) and our eurythmy studios on the campus! With the Drama Department and the Mask Studio at the Glasshouse College, the vision to develop the Glasshouse Arts Centre is now feasible.

STROUD is already the venue for the post-graduate Eurythmy Therapy training, run by Shaina Stoehr and her colleagues. With a travelling time of only 90 minutes, we now envisage a collaboration between the two venues for the basic eurythmy training: Block courses in subsidiary subjects are shared where possible. Teachers travel between both venues during the week.

To develop the expertise and possibilities of both venues, and to meet requests, West Midlands Eurythmy now offers:

In STOURBRIDGE the full-time accredited Eurythmy Training of 4 years, beginning September 2011. All students study speech eurythmy and music eurythmy, poetry, speech, modelling, form-drawing, choral singing, child development and Steiner-Waldorf education, Goethean observation and plant-study, physiology and anatomy.

In STROUD taster-sessions, blocks courses, evening and weekend sessions are developing. Specific themes involving the fine arts include painting, modelling, speech, and Goethean observation.

Eurythmy is an art of movement with pathways in stage performance, education, therapy, social and organisational development. Courses are based on experiential learning, focussing on individual development and group interaction.

Offered by West Midlands Eurythmy Association (WMEA)

Fully accredited by EdExcel through Crossfields Institute

BAC Accredited

UKBA recognised Sponsor
