Music Eurythmy
Music Eurythmy
In the beginning was the Word…
and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us…’ John 1- God spoke the creation
Genesis 1 - He spoke the sounds of the alphabet
Sepher Yetzirah: The Book of Creation - For Pythagoras:
the music of the spheres was a reality - For Plato:
the world was created by the Word - The dance originated with the help of the arm-movements and gestures which imitate words and speech- sounds
Cratylus, The Laws…
Music Eurythmy What we offer:
Music Eurythmy Workshops
involve discovering the source of movement, the creative breath or spirit, through centring; relating; developing expressive gesture.
We explore the polarities and transitions within the categories of music: melody, rhythm, and beat.
The social art of eurythmy can lead to
- Harmonizing therapy ‘tuning my body as an instrument’
- Deeper awareness of my neighbour ‘presence of mind’
- Expressing the spirit ‘visible singing’
- Equipment – loose clothing, thin-soled gym shoes, and a sense of humour.
WHAT IS EURYTHMY?
- The human being was created by the Word (cosmic music).
- Creativity continues in human speaking and singing.
- In learning to master our own bodily instrument, we can develop the soul’s creative enjoyment and its expressive possibilities.
Instrumental music is returned to its intrinsic and historical origin in the voice. Others speak and make music; the eurythmist accompanies these sister arts, extending their possibilities.
The creative power in the sounding larynx. is expressed through movement of the whole body, especially the arms. Technique and expression, form and content, are united in this new art of ‘beautiful, harmonious movement’.
… and the Word shall become Spirit again.
Eurythmy Demonstrations and Performances in “visible singing”
- We offer to show how the musician and the eurythmist attempt a living interpretation through releasing the movement in the musical elements themselves.
- Our repertoire includes instrumental compositions by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Debussy, and Messiaen.
